ASSOCIATED GROCERS – SAM S. POLITZ SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Associated Grocers – Sam S. Politz Scholarship Fund was established through the generosity of the members of Associated Grocers Inc. of Baton Rouge, La. This scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Sam S. Politz, a former president and CEO of Associated Grocers Inc.
The Fund provides scholarships to assist graduating Louisiana high school students who will enroll full-time in an accredited college or university. Scholarship awards shall be used toward the following, in order of priority: tuition and fees; books and supplies; room and board; and commuting expenses up to fifty dollars a month. Students must have a minimum ACT score of 25, a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have taken honors and/or advanced placement courses.
The number of scholarships awarded each year will be subject to availability of funds. Each scholarship is for eight consecutive semesters, $1,000 per semester, for a maximum total scholarship award of $8,000 (Fall and Spring semesters only). Scholarship awards shall be used toward the following, in order of priority: tuition and fees; books and supplies; room and board; and commuting expenses up to $50 per month.
In addition to submitting the Common Application, applicants must submit the following:
- Academic resume
- Personal statement or essay
- Letter of recommendation from school’s principal and/or guidance counselor.
Applications must be submitted online by March 1. All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decisions within two months of the due date.
To maintain the scholarship, each recipient must maintain full-time status as an undergraduate student and must earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 per semester/quarter. Students must provide the Foundation with an official transcript and proof of full-time enrollment every semester to receive payment.
