RUBY J. DARENSBOURG-COOK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

HISTORY
The Ruby J. Darensbourg-Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in December of 1992 by the Cook Family to honor Ms. Cook’s dedication to education and the livelihood of children.

ELIGIBILITY
Scholarships are provided to individuals currently enrolled in a Practitioner Teacher Alternate Certification Program approved by the Louisiana Department of Education. Individuals must be pursuing certification in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education and have completed at least half of the required Certification Program course hours.

AWARD
Subject to the availability of funds, the Scholarship Committee will determine the number of scholarships awarded each year. Scholarship awards are $1,500. The first award of $750 will be paid to each recipient to cover expenses of tuition and fees, books and supplies. The final payment of $750 will be awarded upon the recipient’s successful completion of the Practitioner Teacher Alternate Certification Program.

REQUIREMENTS
In addition to submitting the online application, applicants must submit the following:

  • Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s school placement principal
  • Letter of recommendation from a current professor
  • Transcript
  • Personal statement – Why have you decided to become a teacher?
  • Resume

DEADLINE
Applications must be submitted by June 15. All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decisions within two months of the due date.
